Some people read the Vital Health in Five Steps article and wonder “what the heck am I going to eat now?” It helps to have recipes that are delicious and give you some of those “comfort foods,” just in healthier versions. People are amazed at the flavors and the long-lasting satisfaction that comes when we no longer go through the blood sugar swings of a carbohydrate-based diet, aside from the numerous health and cognitive benefits.
You might imagine, for example, that there will no longer be chocolate cake in your future or hamburgers between some nice, fresh buns. Not so. They’ll just be richer, more flavorful, and better for you.
Recently I went to visit my friend and she turned me on to an amazing cookbook and I want to turn you onto it, without a lot of further ado. It’s Danielle Walker’s Against All Grain: Delectable Paleo Recipes to Eat Well and Feel Great. A lot of the amazing recipes are also available on the author’s beautiful website, www.againstallgrain.com, where she also shares her heart-wrenching struggle to, and success in recovering her health.
By the way, my friend who showed me this cookbook is in her sixties and has felt awful for over 23 years. I met her over a year ago, and when I came to see her again 9 months later she told me that she was basically living in her bed and was exhausted all the time. She asked me if I had any idea what she could do for herself and I outlined the five steps, as I have done for hundreds of people, literally, over the last 8 years. When I saw her again, a week later, she told me that she hadn’t felt as good in 23 years.
I asked her what she did to feel better and she looked at me as if I were some kind of idiot and said, “Well, I just did what you told me to! ” I just about fell over. She is the only person I know that I have had just one conversation with and actually did what I suggested. That was over 8 months ago. Every time I see her she is still feeling better and better, and that first week of implementing the five steps was her last week in bed!
You are not going to have to give up anything except to stop poisoning yourself and feeling sub-par in ways that most people aren’t even aware of, because they’ve felt that way for a lifetime, and already become identified with that way of feeling, and thinking, and looking, etc. But you won’t have to give up on eating deliciously.
