Shibui - Living in the Light of Value
Posted by otryba | Filed under Uncategorized
This is an impressive 2-hour talk by Manly P. Hall on the history of the education of free people, from the Greeks onward, and the elements of living in the Light of Value.
Also, a beautiful introduction to the humanizing value of elegant simplicity and esthetic minimalism that the Japanese callĀ “Shibui” and which is central to a way of life that leads to our human flourishing.
This talk is hosted by the Peace Revolution podcast. This is not just “talk,” they are offering education at a very high level and I highly recommend starting with Podcast number ONE and moving up from there.
I invite your comments and invite you to the deliciousness that you are.
And when you’re in doubt, just say, “Shibui!”

As an Australian who just spent a year in Europe, I couldn’t help but admire the observation, consideration and detail applied to so many aspects of life, even as recently as 100 years ago. Of course this sort of detail still exists, but perhaps without as much grace and more pure production. We have so much to distract in the modern day, along with all those dead-lines people are pushing to meet, that that art of simple observation and pure self expression can seem so distant.
Thankfully the beauty of Life, and in expressing it’s beauty, is that it can be found so abundantly everywhere; we have so many opportunities to recognise it and be inspired by it. I guess the key is (that old favourite) to be a w a r e.
A beautifully spoken and considered piece.
Thank you, thank you for sharing OT!
